Resolution accepting the Minnesota Department Transportation (MnDOT) Transportation Economic Development (TED) grant and authorizing the City Manager to execute a grant agreement with the State for City costs associated with the U.S. Highway 169 project.
Recommendation/Action(s):
Resolution accepting TED funding and authorizing the City Manager to execute a grant agreement with the State for a portion of the City’s cost for the U.S. Highway 169 project.
Summary:
On July 8, 2024, the City Council approved the submission of a TED grant application to MnDOT. Recently, the City was informed that its application was successful and that $1,600,000 has been awarded to help fund the City’s share of the U.S. Highway 169 project. A letter from MnDOT is attached.
MnDOT’s TED program is a competitive funding program designed to help generate economic benefits though investment in transportation infrastructure. The proposed improvements in Mankato will include a new roundabout intersection and a pedestrian underpass at North River Lane. The project also includes the removal of the existing traffic signal at Lind Street and may include aesthetic and landscaping improvements currently being considered.
