The Mankato Department of Public Safety (MDPS) has entered into agreements with local industry to provide OSHA-required confined space rescue services. The current agreements expired on December 31, 2024, and are due to be renewed. This agreement allows local industry to have one specialized confined space rescue team at their disposal rather than forcing each local business to fund, train, and equip their own teams to meet the OSHA requirement. Each business that contracts with MDPS pays an annual maintenance fee based upon the number and types of confined spaces to cover the cost of equipment and training. Also included in the fee is the cost of emergency response to their facility should confined space rescue services be required. Contracted organizations are also offered a reduced cost for rescue team standby services should their employees need to undertake a higher-risk confined space entry.
 
In 2024, participants included: Ardent Mills, ADM, ISD 77, Blue Earth County, Crystal Valley Coop., Dotson Iron Castings, Xcel Willmarth plant, Consolidated Communications, CHS Cooperative, City of Mankato, Hubbard Feeds, Inc., MN State University, Mankato, Big Gain Feeds, MCHS Mankato, LJP-MWPC, LJP-North Mankato, and Mankato Energy Center.
