Resolution accepting Federal Transportation Grants for the Trunk Highway 169 Project.
Recommendation/Action(s):
Resolution accepting Minnesota Department Transportation (MnDOT) funding thru its 2029 ATP solicitation for City of Mankato costs associated with the U.S. Highway 169 project.
Summary:
On December 9, 2024, the City Council approved the submission of grant applications to MnDOT for funding through the STP – Small Urban and Transportation Alternatives programs. Recently, the City was informed that its applications were successful and that the following funds have been awarded to help fund the City’s share of the U.S. Highway 169 project. Award letters from MnDOT are attached.
These funds were awarded through the region’s competitive 2029 ATP-7 solicitation. Both funding sources require a 20% local match. The total estimated cost of Mankato’s share of the project, not including local utility improvements, is estimated to be $4,025,000. With this federal funding and the previously awarded State Transportation Economic Development (TED) funding ($1.6M), approximately $3.5M has been secured to date for this project. The proposed improvements in Mankato will include a new roundabout intersection and pedestrian underpass at North River Lane. The project also includes the removal of the existing traffic signal at Lind Street and may include aesthetic and landscaping improvements currently being considered (not included in the cost estimate above).
