Motion approving the submission of a grant to apply for 2025 Historic Preservation Funds from the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO).
Recommendation/Action(s):
Make a motion approving the submittal of the grant application.
Summary:
The City of Mankato is requesting to apply to SHPO for a grant to purchase 1 interpretative signage panel and for 2 local designation signs. The placement of the interpretative plaque will be at the Lincoln Community Center. The location of the local designation plaques will be determined by the Heritage Preservation Commission in coordination with property owners of the locally designated properties. The cost estimate for the heritage plaque is $4,021, the local designation plaques will be $1,596 ($798/plaque), and installation fees are estimated to be $750.
The in-kind match will be a combination of staff between Blue Earth County Historical Society and the Heritage Preservation Commission. The State Historic Preservation Office provides a volunteer pay schedule for hours spent by the Heritage Preservation Commission and the Blue Earth County Historical Society. Staff time will be billed based on the fully loaded rate of the staff members working on the plaques.
