Resolution considering bids on Improvement Project 11188; Bassett Drive Extension.
Recommendation/Action(s):
Adoption of the attached resolution.
Summary:
On May 27, 2025, the City Council approved the Bassett Drive Extension project and directed that the project be advertised and bids for construction received. At this time, the total project cost was estimated to be $1,811,660.40. This project consists of the extension of Basset Drive from Carver Road to the east to serve the newly proposed Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) and Blue Earth County Justice Center properties. Improvements include approximately 1,300 feet of new roadway, utility extensions, private driveways and utility services, a sidewalk and multi-use trail. The cost of this project was anticipated in the development agreements for each adjoining property.
Bids for the project were opened on July 18, 2025; five bids were received.
Since the bid opening, the BCA, Blue Earth County and the City have been working on an agreement that covers project construction and funding. This agreement has been negotiated and is before the City Council as a separate item on the Consent Calendar.
Based on the low bid, the total project cost is now estimated to be $1,104,491.38. This amount is proposed to be 100% billed to the two benefiting property owners. A detailed project cost and proposed cost participation are attached.
