The City received an Opioid Remediation Grant application from the Travis James Gustavson Foundation requesting $13,000 in support of the continuation of a billboard that provides awareness, education, and serves as a resource for opioid use and addiction. The focus is to help spread the awareness of illicit substances in the community, in addition to starting conversations in hopes of curbing the stigma and helping people understand that substance-use disorder is a disease. Some resources will also be included.

As you recall, a grant was applied for and received in September 2024 in the amount of $23,200, which included the cost of producing and displaying two billboards, one on Madison Avenue and one on Victory Drive. The current request is for the billboard on Madison Avenue and 4^th Street to remain for another year as it has received many positive comments and feedback, and it is felt that the message is still pertinent.

Per the grant guidelines, the request falls under G. relating to preventing the misuse of opioids, which supports efforts to discourage or prevent the misuse of opioids through evidence-based or evidence-informed programs or strategies.

A grant review panel consisting of three staff members reviewed the application and recommended approval of the grant allocation.
