Summary:
The Mankato Public Safety Awards Committee endorses a Citizen Life Saving Award to Ryan Berlin and Medical Intervention awards for Firefighters Andrew Miller and Robert Atzenhoefer for actions that directly contributed to the effort to save a person’s life on May 9, 2025.
The Mankato Department of Public Safety Awards Committee was made aware of the following actions that took place on May 9, 2025:
On May 9, 2025, Public Safety was dispatched to an unresponsive man at 20 Civic Center Plaza. Citizen Ryan Berlin was working at the hotel and was notified by a customer that someone was having a medical emergency. Mr. Berlin observed the patient on the ground, unresponsive and not breathing. Mr. Berlin then called 911 and performed CPR until Public Safety arrived. Upon arrival, Firefighters Andrew Miller and Robert Atzenhoefer applied the LUCAS device and defibrillator and continued CPR until the patient regained a pulse.
