As part of the City of Mankato’s Strategic Plan and in alignment with the recommendations of the Housing Study, staff are initiating a discussion on refining the City’s development processes to better support community growth and housing needs.
At the Mankato Economic Development Authority Meeting on August 11, 2025, the Economic Development Authority authorized drafting an ordinance reducing the parking requirements for multiple-family dwellings.
Parking standards for multiple-family dwellings have also become an increasingly frequent point of discussion. Several recent proposals have sought to reduce the current requirement of two parking stalls per unit, citing factors such as changing mobility patterns, transit accessibility, and the evolving needs of residents. A review of these requirements will allow the City to balance housing density goals, sustainable transportation strategies, and support the needs of residents.
