Agenda Item:

Resolution approving Opioid Remediation Grant for MyPlace for $25,000 per year for five years to support a Mental Health Specialist position.

Recommendation/Action(s):

Adoption of the attached resolution.

Summary:

The city received an Opioid Remediation Grant application from MyPlace requesting $25,000 per year for five (5) years to support a mental health specialist, which will be a full-time permanent position. In the summer of 2024, MyPlace received the Opioid Remediation Grant and successfully piloted a mental health program that demonstrated clear impact. The focus is to create a stronger, more sustainable support system for members and families by helping them build resilience, achieve success, and grow into thriving community members. They plan to work collaboratively with other partners, including shelters and mental health organizations, to maximize the position, provide wrap-around services and improve outcomes, and to reinforce the work that is being done at the schools.

The cost for the position, including salary and benefits, is $85,000 annually. At the time of submission, MyPlace had received financial support for the position from Mayo Clinic ($50,000), and Mankato Clinic ($50,000). The grant request falls under G.12. of the guidelines for Opioid Remediation uses, which states:

Support greater access to mental health services and support for young people, including services and support provided by school nurses, behavioral health workers or other school staff, to address mental health needs in young people that (when not properly addressed) increase the risk of opioid or other drug misuse.

A grant review panel consisting of three staff members reviewed the application and recommended approval of the grant allocations. At the end of each year, as part of the grant process, a grant report form will be submitted.
