Presentation of Citizen Life Saving Award to Jeremy Hanel.
Summary:
The Mankato Department of Public Safety Awards Committee was made aware of the following actions that took place on September 29, 2025:
On September 29, 2025, Public Safety was dispatched to a call for a person who was standing outside the railing of the North Star Bridge in Mankato. Prior to emergency responders’ arrival, citizen Jeremy Hanel noticed a man climbing over the railing of the bridge. He had his son call 911 while he turned his vehicle around and stopped near the man on the ledge of the bridge. Mr. Hanel approached the man and asked him simple questions to attempt to reassure him. Once he was close enough, Mr. Hanel grabbed onto the man, gave him a big hug, and continued to talk with him until he was able to assist the man back over the railing to the sidewalk of the bridge.
The Mankato Public Safety Awards Committee endorses a Citizen Life Saving Award to Jeremy Hanel for actions that directly contributed to the effort of saving a person’s life on September 29, 2025.
