6.U.
City Council Regular Meeting
- Meeting Date:
- 01/12/2026
Agenda Item:
Resolution approving the temporary construction easement for Phase I of the Trunk Highway 169 Project.
Recommendation/Action(s):
Adoption of the attached resolution.
Summary:
The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), in partnership with the cities of Mankato and North Mankato, is developing plans for improvements to Trunk Highway 169 (TH 169) from approximately Belgrade Avenue to Trunk Highway 14 (TH 14). This project is anticipated to be constructed in 2027.
To facilitate construction, a temporary construction easement is needed on a property owned by the City of Mankato. This property, Outlot A as shown in the attached exhibit, is a parcel used as part of the right-of-way for Range Street and is located immediately west of TH 169 near Hiniker Pond. MnDOT has prepared the necessary easement and is asking the City of Mankato to waive its right to a formal appraisal and to grant the easement at no cost. Similar dedications have occurred on many previous MnDOT projects – most recently as part of the Veteran’s Bridge Project.
The specific easement area is located on the far east side of the property and is approximately 31 square feet in size. The temporary easement is proposed to stay in place until December 2031 to fully cover construction and follow-up work if needed.
