Construction Services staff recommend installing a NO PARKING (R8?3) sign to reinforce Minnesota Statute 169.34, which prohibits parking within 30 feet of a traffic signal. This measure will help maintain clear sight lines and allow the intersection approach to function as marked. The sign should be added to an existing support if feasible; otherwise, a new support will be provided to ensure proper placement and visibility. This recommendation follows citizen concerns that vehicles have been parked in the signal approach lane. Staff’s review confirmed that existing pavement markings designate this space as a travel lane adjacent to the curb, not a parking lane. A photo provided by the citizen further verifies that the area is currently being used for parking. The owner of Mom & Pop’s Ice Cream at 629 N Riverfront Drive has been contacted regarding the proposed sign installation and is supportive.
