Report on project and Change Orders 6 and 8 for MnDOT Project SP 5212-35 (169); Veteran’s Bridge (Bridge 07042) Rehabilitation project.

Recommendation/Action(s):

No action, informational only.

Summary:

In accordance with Section 2-8 of the Mankato City Code, the City Manager is to report as soon as practicable on change orders approved under $100,000 or up to 5% of construction cost for projects above $2,500,000. For projects less than $2,500,000, Council approval is required for change orders exceeding 10% of construction costs.

11216 – Veterans Bridge Redecking – Change Order 6 ($1,214.30)
During construction, it was identified by the MnDOT Project Engineer that the Temporary Traffic Control contract bid item did not include “overlaying and modifying” the existing Mileage Markers for exits from Highway 169 to the City of Mankato and North Mankato. The mileage was required to be changed due to the exit closure and project detour. A portion of the change order cost is the responsibility of the City of Mankato.

11216 – Veterans Bridge Redecking – Change Order 8 ($38,825.60)
The original contract called for the replacement of certain electrical devices and elements associated with the new bridge lighting, signal lighting, and signal system detection. During construction, it was identified by the City of Mankato that the cabinet, conduit, wiring and handholes associated with the electrical feed on the east side of the bridge are deteriorated and in need of replacement. The electrical facilities needing replacement are wholly owned and maintained by the City of Mankato. The Engineer has directed the Contractor associated with the MnDOT Bridge Contract to provide all labor, materials and equipment necessary to accomplish the acceptable installation of a new electrical cabinet meeting city standards and associated electrical components as directed by the City of Mankato.

The total of these two change orders is $40,039.90 and are expected to be paid through project contingency. Change Orders 1 through 5 and 7 have no City of Mankato cost and have been executed by MnDOT.
