Report on project and Change Order 1 for Capital Improvement Project 11200; Land of Memories Park.

No action, informational only.

In accordance with Section 2-8 of the Mankato City Code, the City Manager is to report as soon as practicable on change orders approved under $100,000.  The following is a summary of change orders to date for the following projects:

Change Order 1
The Land of Memories Park playground and campground improvements project requires changes to the contract, for additional scope of work and to reconcile added materials not included in the project bid unit prices and quantities as noted below:

• Common Borrow: The project requires common borrow (fill material) to raise the proposed grade of the playground equipment area to above the required elevation for flooding. An onsite borrow stockpile was utilized for the majority of this fill, but some additional fill is required to complete this elevated playground pad. The shrinkage of the onsite borrow material was greater than anticipated upon compaction of the fill, resulting in a common borrow deficit.
• Topsoil Borrow: Based on soil borings, it was anticipated that there was an existing 8 inches of topsoil material that could be salvaged on the proposed playground site. Upon excavation, there was only 3 to 6 inches of usable existing topsoil that could be salvaged for re-use. Additional topsoil material is proposed to be imported to supplement that existing amount for final restoration and seeding of the area surrounding the new playground and improvements adjacent to the campground.
• The additional materials cost will be tracked by the actual volume imported.
