Ordinance amending Chapter 10 of the Mankato City Code in the M-1, Light Industrial District related to allowed cannabis uses; by request of the City of Mankato.
Recommendation/Action(s):
At the Planning Commission meeting on September 23, 2026, the Planning Commission recommended the adoption of the modification of Mankato City Code to provide clarity on cannabis uses in industrial districts.
Summary:
On November 25, 2024, the City of Mankato City Council adopted zoning standards to determine which zoning districts cannabis-related businesses are allowed to operate. With implementation of the ordinance, minor clarifications and updates are necessary for accurate implementation.
As proposed, this amendment clarifies the intent of the 2024 adoption. Specifically, cannabis manufacturing, processing, testing, and transportation are proposed to be included as permitted use in the M-1, Light Industrial, and the M-2, Heavy Industrial, zoning districts.
