Summary:
The Mankato Department of Public Safety requests authorization to apply for funding through the Fiscal Year 2026 Bulletproof Vest Partnership Program, sponsored by the Federal Office of Justice Programs' Bureau of Justice Assistance. The purpose of the program is to reimburse jurisdictions for up to fifty percent of the cost of National Institute of Justice compliant body armor vests purchased for law enforcement officers.
The request is for reimbursement of up to $7,033.19, representing up to fifty percent of the $14,066.37 eligible cost of eight bullet-resistant vests for licensed law enforcement officers. The final award amount is determined by the Bureau of Justice Assistance based on its review of the application and available program funding.
The Mankato Department of Public Safety has received reimbursement funding through this program in the past, including a Fiscal Year 2025 award. If funding is awarded, a resolution accepting the award and designating its use will be brought to the City Council for consideration.
