District Equity Update
Background:
Through the strategic planning process, Mankato Area Public Schools has committed itself to ‘assuring learning excellence and readiness for a changing world’. To see that the mission of the school district is fully realized, a closer examination of our beliefs and actions related to racial equity is necessary.
Recent local, state and national events have emphasized why this work is critical to our district and that deliberate plans and steps need to be taken to ALL students and families are seen, served and supported in our school district.
As committed to in our June special meeting, the Board will receive an update regarding equity work on two fronts:
All Board members have been provided an overview of the proposed Board-focused strategy for review. Following this information session, members will be asked to approve moving forward in the business portion of the meeting. The potential MnEEP collaboration will be finalized and brought to the Board for consideration in August.

1. A Board-focused three part strategy to address Board collaboration and engage in a comprehensive overview of key governance responsibilities through an equity lens.
2. Preliminary information on a potential collaboration between Mankato Area Public Schools leadership and the Minnesota Education Equity Partnership (MnEEP to develop a comprehensive equity vision, framework and action plan to guide efforts throughout our systems and buildings.
