Information
Subject:
Equity Leadership -- Minnesota Education Equity Partnership
Background:
Throughout the summer, the school district has worked to understand its racial equity role and identify the work necessary to advance the goals of racial equity throughout the system. At last month’s meeting, the School Board took the first step in this process by approving an agreement with an equity consultant to facilitate Board discussion regarding your governance work and collaboration.
Tonight, the School Board will consider taking a key next step in the process. Representatives from the Minnesota Education Equity Partnership (MnEEP) will join Superintendent Peterson to present a district-wide initiative that will lead to the development of an equity vision, framework and action plan. The goal of the partnership is to develop sustainable anti-racism dialogue, teaching, and community-building with the school district. Over the last several weeks, individuals representing various aspects of the Mankato area community have been asked to review the MnEEP proposal and provide feedback regarding the process and intended outcomes.
Specific information about the proposed process, including cost, will be shared with the School Board. Later in tonight’s meeting the School Board will consider approval of the 2020-2021 agreement with MnEEP.
Presenting with Superintendent Peterson will be Jennifer Godinez, MnEEP Associate Director; Dr. Rose Chu, Senior Policy Fellow; and Dr. Jon Peterson, Program Consultant.
