2019-20 Superintendent Evaluation

Background:

Superintendent Paul Peterson was evaluated by the Mankato Area Public School Board in July.

The key goals in the superintendent evaluation process are:
  1. Increased transparency of the process and the Board operating with a single voice to the community
  2. Increased clarity of data that is grounding the evaluation through the Monitoring Report System and VisionCard Performance Management System
  3. Increased use of data-informed evaluation to which events, situations and relationships are added for a comprehensive review
  4. Increased reinforcement of evaluation as a developmental process with full accountability to the public while employing best practices in employee privacy and public leadership

The evaluation tool used by the MAPS School Board to evaluate Dr. Peterson was a blend of the superintendent performance assessment document and a rating scale developed by the American Association of School Administrators.  The following categories were scored on a 0-4 scale by each Board member:
  • Instructional Leadership
  • Performance Management and Continuous Improvement
  • Resource Management
  • Employee, Parent and Community Engagement
  • Leadership in the Public Arena
  • Board Relations
Board members met in a closed study session on July 15, reviewed the gathered information and discussed Dr. Peterson’s performance with him.

A summary of the performance review will be shared by the Board Chair.
