MAPS Learning Model Shift
Background:
Mankato Area Public Schools reviews COVID-19 data on a daily basis. Additionally, the school district holds weekly meetings with two committees that provide community, county and state public health expertise. The MAPS Regional Support Team is a partnership with the Minnesota Department of Health, the Minnesota Department of Education, the South Central Service Cooperative and local public health officials to support us in navigating the impacts of COVID-19. The second committee is the MAPS COVID Command Team. This group reviews Blue Earth and Nicollet County data, school district and individual school infection rates (students and staff) and makes recommendations on the current and future learning model for MAPS.
Based on recommendations from our community partners, and in response to new guidance set forth by the Minnesota Department of Education and Minnesota Department of Health, MAPS is preparing to transition PreK-5 students from distance learning to hybrid learning on Tuesday, January 19. Tonight’s presentation will provide an overview of the recommendation and the plans that have been developed to implement this shift.

Recommended Action:
The administration recommends elementary (PreK-5) students return to the hybrid learning model beginning January 19, 2021.
