Subject:
Approval of 77 Lancers Program to High School Activities
Background:
The Activities Council has met several times since the spring of 2020 about the need to restructure the oversight and responsibility of the marching band program. Historically, the 77 Lancers has been operated within the school district through Community Education and Recreation (CER). This structure has served the district well, with CER responsible for staffing, scheduling and budget. In the last several years, however, costs have continued to climb, and with a significantly smaller budget than the school district’s general fund, CER is not a viable long-term home for a marching band.
At tonight’s meeting, Activities Directors Joe Johnson and Todd Waterbury will present information on the marching band program and a recommendation to shift budget responsibility and program oversight from 04 (Community Fund) to 01 (General Fund) once the 2021 summer marching band season has been completed.

Recommended Action:
The administration recommends the approval of the fund change to the Lancer program starting the Fall of 2021.
