Item Type:

Subject:
Approval of Modification to the 2021-2022 Calendar
Background:
Two changes are being recommended to the 2021-22 school calendar. One extends two traditional ‘late start’ dates to full professional development days, and the other shifts the first day of school to recognize Rosh Hashanah.
- The first day of school next year is scheduled for Tuesday, September 7. This also is Rosh Hashanah. As school districts have become aware of this conflict, many have shifted the first day of school to Wednesday, September 8 so students and staff who celebrate the holiday do not miss participating in the first day of school.
- Monthly Distance Learning Wednesdays have provided staff with extended professional development time for professional learning communities. These have been tremendously important as they have provided additional time for staff to meet in teams to plan and review student learning data.
- Change the first day of school to Wednesday, September 8 and make Monday, April 18 a student contact day.
- Change staff development time in October and February from late starts to full days.
Recommended Action:
The administration recommends approval of the modification to the 2021-2022 calendar.
