Long-Range Facilities Planning Report
Background:
Since 2017, Mankato Area Public Schools has engaged in a long-range facilities planning process to address adequacy and capacity needs across the school district. The process includes reviewing current facilities, changing educational needs of students, enrollment, all in an effort to ensure the district continues to have exceptional facilities for students and the community.
Over the last two years, the pandemic has affected portions of the planning process but district leaders have continued to meet to prepare the system and the community for a future referendum. Last fall, a community-wide survey was conducted to raise awareness and gauge support for several facility needs that will be facing MAPS.
Since the fall, the facilities planning committee has met several times to analyze current data and continue refining what may be included in a future bond referendum. Late last month, presentations were received by architectural firms interested in working with the school district, and later this evening the School Board will consider approval of working with the recommended firms.
Tonight’s update will provide a general overview of progress over the last several months, and will include information from the two architectural firms that are being recommended to partner with MAPS.
