ITEM NUMBER: 7.D.
School Board Regular Meeting
Meeting Date:
08/21/2023
Prepared By:
Amanda Heilman
Item Type:

Subject:

Approval of School District Boundaries

Background:

Except for Bridges Community School, student enrollment in MAPS schools is based on address. MAPS has Board-adopted school boundaries that identify the elementary, middle and high school boundaries within the entire school district. Enrollments and building capacities are monitored on a continual basis.

The new apartment building by the downtown Cub Foods is nearly complete, and has been slated to become part of the Jefferson attendance boundary (labeled A on the attached map). Jefferson is our smallest elementary school and can easily handle the anticipated increased enrollment from the apartment complex. Current attendance maps have the property in the Roosevelt school boundary area.

In addition, over the last several years there have been three additional boundary adjustments that have been made to address building capacity and class sizes at Washington. Students that are residing within these three areas (labeled B,C, and D on the attached map) are already attending their new boundary school. Currently, students in boundary area B and C attend Kennedy and students in boundary area D attend Franklin. By approving these boundary adjustments, the district will be able to accurately reflect these changes in our transportation and student information systems.

Recommended Action:

It is recommended by administration that the school board approves the boundary
adjustments.
