Approval of School Board Compensation for 2026

Background:

In December 2025 the School Board changed Policy 218, modifying the language that specified school board member compensation. The revised language directs board members to set stipends at the January Organizational Meeting.

School district administration has shared with the Executive Committee comparisons from the Big 9 athletic conference, similar sized school districts and the other regional centers in Minnesota. Based on these, compensation for Mankato Area Public Schools board members in 2026 is recommended as follows:

Director - $5,000
Clerk - $5,400
Treasurer - $5,400
Vice-Chair - $5,600
Chair - $6,200

Board members receive a $400 stipend/year for serving on a negotiations team. If more than eight (8) negotiation sessions are needed, board members receive $50 for each additional meeting.

Recommended Action:

The administration recommends the School Board compensation for 2026 as presented.
