CITY COUNCIL MEMORANDUM

City Council Meeting: April 27, 2021
Department: Emergency Medical Services
Subject: Resolution No. 21-R-36 - Consideration and/or action approving a Resolution by the City Council of the City of Schertz, Texas authorizing additional expenditures with Bound Tree Medical totaling no more than $175,000 and with Henry Schein, Inc. totaling no more than $100,000 for medical supplies and other matters in connection therewith. (M. Brown/C. Kelm/J. Mabbitt)

BACKGROUND

In February 2018, City Council approved Resolution 18-R-03 approving a contract with Bound Tree Medical and Henry Schein, Inc. for the purchase of medical supplies totaling no more than $150,000 and $75,000 respectively.  Because of the pandemic and with the increase in COVID type calls, we were approved by the Federal Government to purchase certain medical supplies reimbursed by the Cares Act.

To date our expenses with Henry Schein is $66,343 and with Bound Tree Medical is $95,377; however, with the demands on resources created by our response to COVID, EMS anticipate exceeded the current NTE amounts through the end of the fiscal year.

Because of these increases, staff recommends increasing the Not to Exceed (NTE) limits by $25,000 for each vendor.

GOAL

To increase the spending limits of the existing contractes to continue purchasing needed medical supplies.

COMMUNITY BENEFIT

These medical supplies will be used on EMS calls.

SUMMARY OF RECOMMENDED ACTION

Approval of Resolution 21-R-36 authorizing additional expenditures with Bound Tree Medical totaling no more than $175,000 and with Henry Schein, Inc. totaling no more than $100,000 for medical supplies.

FISCAL IMPACT

There will be no fiscal impact and no increase to the EMS medical supply budget since these medical supplies purchased were reimbursed through the CARES Act.

RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends approval of Resolution No. 21-R-36
