Prior to its current location at 800 Community Circle, the City of Schertz’s Animal Adoption Center was located at 1298 Borgfeld Road. Staff explored different options to reuse the building, but ultimately recommend again that given the costs of renovation and repair as well as the limited functionality of the building. On February 6, 2024, City Council approved the demolition of unoccupied City buildings, which included the structures located at 1298 Borgfeld Road.

Staff is seeking direction from City Council regarding the disposition of the now-vacant property. The City has no need for this property and there is a cost to maintaining it - mowing, securing the building, etc. Staff is recommending that the City sell the property. State law provides a few ways the City can sell the property and if that is the direction of Council, staff will work to determine the best way to put it out for sale.
