CITY COUNCIL MEMORANDUM

City Council Meeting: April 6, 2021
Department: Fire Department
Subject: Resolution No. 21-R-27 - Consideration and/or action approving a  Resolution by the City Council of the City of Schertz Texas authorizing temporary employees to help manage the COVID-19 vaccine clinics. (M. Browne/C. Kelm/K. Long)

BACKGROUND

In order to keep distribution pace and manage workload of the COVID-19 vaccine clinics, Staff is requesting authorization to hire up to ten temporary employees.

In accordance with City policy 4.1.2 Employee Classifications, temporary employees are those with assignments that are of a limited duration, ordinarily specified in advance. A temporary employee may be full-time or part-time, paid on an hourly basis and not eligible for City benefits.

These temporary employees will operate under the oversight of the Fire Department, within the Emergency Management division. Employee work assignments are not anticipated to exceed four months in duration. We have hired one lead temporary employee – COVID Support Lead – and one supporting employee – COVID Support Staff. The essential functions of these positions are detailed in the attached job descriptions. This request is for up to an additional 8 temporary employees.
