BACKGROUND
Due to conflicts with the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) proposed IH 35 NEX project, the City must relocate existing water and sewer mains. The City currently has sewer mains located within existing easements that are now encroached upon by the interstate right-of-way. New easements are being acquired and Resolution 25-R-049 authorized the City Manager to execute easement documents in conjunction with the relocation project. The cost of the easement for Parcel 5 exceeds $50,000 which requires Council approval.
GOAL
The goal of Resolution 25-R-103 is to authorize payment for the easement on Parcel 5.
COMMUNITY BENEFIT
The relocation of utilities will allow for the continuation of service to residents and businesses along the IH 35 corridor.
SUMMARY OF RECOMMENDED ACTION
Staff recommends approval of payment for the easement on Parcel 5.
FISCAL IMPACT
The negotiated agreed-upon price of the easement for Parcel 5 is $56,124.32, which includes title and escrow fees. The total cost of all easements acquired for the IH 35 NEX project is $111,788.92. The initial funding for the easement acquisition will be from Water and Sewer Construction Reserves and will later be reimbursed from the State of Texas due to this being an interstate highway project.
RECOMMENDATION
Approve Resolution 25-R-103.
