In accordance with the City Council Code of Conduct (Ordinance 18-M-06) and the City Council Rules of Conduct and Procedure (Ordinance 22-M-29), City Councilmember assignments as members and/or liaisons to City Boards, Commissions, and Committees are reviewed and adopted annually each December for the upcoming year. Historically, assignments have been based on council tenure and member preference, with senior councilmembers retaining the option to remain on previously assigned boards or voluntarily relinquish a seat.

With the addition of several new councilmembers, it has been suggested that Council conduct a review and open discussion of the current assignment process. The purpose of this discussion is to educate new councilmembers on the roles and responsibilities associated with serving as a member and/or liaison to City boards, commissions, and committees.

Future Action Item: Consider amendments to City Council Rules of Conduct and Procedure related to the current assignment process to establish a transparent, fair, and repeatable framework that aligns appointments with councilmember qualifications, interests, workload, continuity needs, and public trust.
