On September 15, 2026, City Council held a workshop to discuss future water demand and supply. During this workshop, discussion occurred regarding the role CVLGC could play in providing water. As part of ongoing discussions by the CVLGC Board, staff is seeking insight from Council into the priorities associated with Schertz' portion of the water lease rights. Factors include: how council prioritizes retaining "ownership" of the water rights, leasing the water rights, all the water rights, part of the water rights, the cost of eventually having access to the water, getting value for the cost to the city associated with these water rights, ensuring the water serves Schertz vs another community, etc. Having a better understanding of the priorities will allow staff to better discuss and evaluation potential options.
