Discussion and possible action on any and all matters regarding the approval of extending purchase limit of state land located along Juan Sanchez Boulevard from 4th Avenue to approximately 500 feet east of 6th Avenue in addition to land necessary for the ongoing 4th Avenue and Juan Sanchez Boulevard Intersection Improvements Project. SUMMARY:
Staff has been working with Core Engineering on the design of the 4th and Juan Sanchez Boulevard Intersection Project and have generated an exhibit delineating the land that needs to be acquired from Arizona State Land Department (ASLD). Due to some utility conflicts, the application to purchase the right of way has not yet been submitted.
Understanding that construction will not happen this fiscal year, staff is considering the option of including the right of way purchase from Arizona State Land Department for the Juan Sanchez Boulevard segment between 4th and 6th Avenues.
Part of the ASLD land purchasing process requires a land appraisal, so actual land purchase cost is approximate at this time ($30,000.00 per acre). Estimate acres for the 4th and Juan Sanchez Boulevard intersection improvements project is 3.6 acres totaling approximately $108,000.00. Adding land purchase east of 4th Avenue would add approximately 4.3 acres and $130,000.00. This would include right of way for 5th and 6th Avenues which was never acquired and where we currently have a roadway.

RECOMMENDATION / SUGGESTED MOTION:
I MOVE TO APPROVE PURCHASING PROCESS TO ACQUIRE RIGHT-OF-WAY ON JUAN SANCHEZ BOULEVARD FROM 4TH AVENUE THROUGH THE 6TH AVENUE INTERSECTION AND 5TH AVENUE NORTH OF JUAN SANCHEZ.

FY18 CIP approved project, subject project includes construction of 4th and Juan Sanchez Blvd intersection improvements approximately $110,000. Adding right of way purchase for land east of 4th Avenue would add another $140,000 approximately.
