ITEM:

Discussion and possible action on any and all matters regarding Resolution No. 2052.  A resolution of the Mayor and City Council of the City of San Luis, Arizona, supporting the establishment of the Census 2020 Complete Count Committee and to encourage every person to be counted.  (Jose A. Guzman, Director of Planning and Zoning)

SUMMARY:

The 2020 Census will occur on April 1, 2020. The Census is a mandate of the United States Constitution to complete a count every 10 years of everyone residing in the United States. This includes people of all ages, races, ethnic groups, citizens, and non-citizens.  The population totals from the 2020 Census will determine the number of seats each state has in the House of Representatives; will be used to redraw state legislative districts, and will determine funding for programs, projects and state shared revenues.

This resolution is to establish the City's participation in the regional Yuma County Complete Count Committee. The City will later form a local committee which will consist of two City staff members, two community leaders, and two Council members.

I MOVE TO APPROVE RESOLUTION NO. 2052.
