ITEM:

Discussion on any and all matters regarding street names on the east mesa of the City.  (John Starkey, Zoning Administrator)

SUMMARY:

Street name changes are not very common, due to the impact upon the public, including property owners along the street and the traveling public. However, sometimes there are good reasons for making a street name change. In this case, this will be the best time to start the process to create a street naming system, the reason being that this land is mostly undeveloped.

City of San Luis has a configuration where streets running north-south are numbered avenues going east. 10th Ave (Avenue H) is the last numbered avenue after that the city has the County’s lettered avenues in one-mile intervals going east (Avenues G, F, E, D,C, and B).

In order to keep consistency with the city, the letter avenues must be changed to numbered avenues in four-avenue intervals changing Ave G to 14th Ave, Ave F to 18th Ave, Etc. (Attached Map).

Arterial and collector roads play a role in defining the broader character of the community. Streets going east-west do not have a defined pattern in the developed area of the city. A street name system is necessary to eliminate duplicate street names and reduce confusion in the delivery of emergency services for future development in this area. City staff asks the City Council on their input for street names system or pattern navigating east-west.
