Discussion and possible directions to staff on any and all matters regarding the agreement with the Humane Society of Yuma for Fiscal Year 2019-2020. (Tadeo A. De La Hoya, City Manager and Francia Alonso, Assistant to Council/PIO)

SUMMARY:

Service: The Humane Society of Yuma provides kenneling, quarantine, and euthanasia services for stray animals or animals that have bitten people.

Amount: In past years, the city has had agreements with the Humane Society of Yuma and has already budgeted funds up to $50,000.00 for services to continue until the end of the Fiscal Year 2019-2020.  Under the agreement, the city will pay a flat rate for services for the year in monthly increments.

Additional Service proposal:  The Humane Society of Yuma proposes to provide low-cost spay, neuter, and microchip services to the residence of the City of San Luis.  Staff and the Humane Society had discussions early 2019 about using former police station manufactured building behind the Municipal Court House for this service.

Amount: The Humane Society proposes $20,000 for a year of local spay, neuter and microchip services.  The budget did not include the additional service for this year.

RECOMMENDATION / SUGGESTED MOTION:
