Discussion and possible action on any and all matters regarding the purchase of a new Dodge Power Wagon.  (Angel Ramirez, Fire Chief)

SUMMARY:

The City of San Luis Fire Department has been an innovative Fire Department. We have found ways to better serve our community of San Luis, Arizona.  As the city grows, so does the volume of calls throughout the city.  We have seen an increase in call volume to the east side of the city and the desert area.  We took the time to take a look and see how we can better improve the response times to these areas.  By buying the Dodge power wagon, we will be cutting the response time to a more manageable response. Also, we will have the capability to respond with Unites Stated Border Patrol to any incident in the desert area, since it will be equipped with 4x4 and all the equipment needed for Rescue Operations and Emergency Medical Services (EMS).  This vehicle will help us maintain our bigger trucks (Engine 1 and Ladder 1) with the wear and tear of responding to the east side for all EMS calls. All EMS and rescue operations that happen on the east side will be provided by this unit.  This unit will be staffed by an Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic at all times.

This item was brought up at the annual budget retreat and is also in the approved capital outlay/projects budget.  We were able to obtain three (3) quotes. Two (2) quotes are from out of town dealers and one from Yuma.  The quote from Earnhardt is for $61,589.00; Fisher Dodge Yuma is for $57,138.35; Bill Luke Chrysler/Jeep & Dodge is for $45,516.50, which is a State of Arizona contract vendor.  All quotes include taxes and corresponding fees.  We were approved a budget of $57,140.00 for this item.  The state contract is much lower than the other two quotes.  If approved, we will be able to purchase equipment lights and any other necessary equipment since the Dodge power wagon is much less than what we anticipated.

Staff is requesting the City Council to approve the purchase of a new 2019 Dodger Power Wagon in the amount of $45,516.50 utilizing State of Arizona contract #ADSPO17-166121 as permitted in the city Procurement Code Section 36.01 (G) State or Federal Contracts. 

RECOMMENDATION / SUGGESTED MOTION:

I MOVE TO APPROVE THE PURCHASE OF A DODGE POWER WAGON IN THE AMOUNT OF $45,516.50.
