Discussion and possible action on any and all matters pertaining to the appointment of members to serve on the City of San Luis Planning & Zoning Commission. (Jose A. Guzman, Director of Planning & Zoning)
SUMMARY:
On June 17, 2019, Concepcion Ulloa emailed staff letting them know she would be resigning from the Planning and Zoning Commission due to personal reasons. Her term expired on January 31, 2020.
Currently, six (6) Commission Members are serving on the City of San Luis Planning and Zoning Commission:
Chairman Marco A. Pinzon
Vice Chairman Daniel Bazua
Commission Member Javier Barraza
Commission Member Hugo Garcia
Commission Member Guillermina Fuentes
Commission Member Veronica Zavala
The commission is to be composed of seven (7) members. It is important that the Planning and Zoning Commission has a full appointment of seven (7) members as development continues to grow in San Luis.
The end of term for Mr. Barraza was on January 31, 2020. Mr. Barraza was appointed on February 24, 2016. Commission Member Barraza is interested in continuing serving as Commission Member.
As established in §152.026(D) and §152.026(E) of the San Luis City Code:
We have received applications from Case Van Veen and from George Amaya. Applications are attached for your review or the department can continue to advertise for recruitment.

E. Term of Office. The term of office of the members of the commission shall be four (4) years, with the terms of members so staggered that the terms of no more than three (3) members shall expire on January 31st in any one year. The incumbent commissioner shall continue to serve, after their term of office has expired until a successor has been appointed. In the event of a death, resignation, or removal from the commission, a resident appointed by the City Council shall fill the vacancy, for the unexpired term.
