Discussion and possible action on any and all matters regarding authorization for employee COLA adjustment for FY 2020. (Monica Castro, Director of Finance)
SUMMARY:
Due to the uncertainty faced this year with COVID-19, the budget for FY 2020-21 did not include the third phase adjustment of the salary adjustment. This third adjustment would have made it possible to bring the majority of employees to 100% of the market. Currently, employees are above 90%, but many of them are below 100%.
In addition, this year our employees are facing many challenges, and life has changed from how we know it. Social distancing and the increase in numbers of COVID-19 cases have called for the cancellation of our annual recognition event; additionally, this pandemic has caused financial hardships to many of our employees. Many of them have faced unexpected medical bills, among other issues.
We are recommending for employees to be paid out a COLA adjustment of $650.00 for FT employees and $300.00 for PT employees, in order to provide some relief to our employees during these difficult times.
