Discussion and possible action on any and all matters regarding a design contract for the new Fire station #2. (Angel Ramirez, Fire Chief)
SUMMARY:
The City of San Luis is growing at a rapid pace. We have seen that the east side of the city is where all our growth is happening. At this time, we don’t have a fire station to protect the residents of East San Luis. We have noticed that the presence of the fire department is crucial to be able to maintain the response times needed by the Arizona Department of Health Services.
We will be trying to build a 2,400 square foot building and a shade structure. This building should be able to house 5-7 firefighters, one (1) fire truck, and one (1) ambulance. This will provide the necessary fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) coverage for the residents of east San Luis.
The San Luis Fire Department sent four (4) proposals to different firms to see which could give us a better design concept for our build needed on east San Luis. The proposals are attached in the appropriate tab for your review. We would like to ask the City Council to approve one of the bids to move forward into the design phase. City Council directed staff that the lowest bid was appropriate in this case, so staff is recommending Vega and Vega.

RECOMMENDATION / SUGGESTED MOTION:
I MOVE TO ACCEPT THE BID FROM VEGA & VEGA ENGINEERING, PLC FOR THE DESIGN OF THE FIRE STATION #2, IN THE AMOUNT OF $21,000.00 AND DIRECT APPROPRIATE STAFF TO DRAFT AND EXECUTE A CONTRACT.
