Discussion and possible action to hold an executive session pursuant to A.R.S. § 38-431.03 (A), subsections (1), (3), and (4) on any and all matters relating to the position of Chief of Police and the employment, assignment, appointment, promotion, demotion, dismissal, salary, disciplining, or resignation of the position of Chief of Police, including discussion of a possible confirmation of the City Manager's appointment of the Chief of Police and/or discussion of approval of terms and/or conditions of said appointment pursuant to San Luis City Code § 2.20.020, and consultation with the attorney or attorneys of the City regarding the same.(Ralph Velez, Interim City Manager and Kay Marion Macuil, City Attorney)
SUMMARY:
City Council can be properly advised by holding an executive session for the purposes described in the agenda item. Any proposed changes to the contract will be discussed in the executive session as permitted by the Open Meeting Law.
The Chief of Police is a position created by city ordinance codified under San Luis City Code Section § 2.20.020, which states:
"The Chief of Police shall be appointed by the City Manager, whose appointment shall be confirmed by the City Council, and shall serve at the pleasure of the City Manager on terms and conditions as may be approved by the City Council. The Chief of Police shall be subject to the direction of the City Manager. The City Manager shall provide for the appointment of as many police officers as may from time to time be deemed necessary for the safety and good order of the city."

I MOVE TO HOLD AN EXECUTIVE SESSION PURSUANT TO A.R.S. § 38-431.03(A) SUBSECTIONS (1), (3), AND (4) ON THE TOPIC DESCRIBED IN THE AGENDA ITEM.
