ITEM:
Discussion and possible action on any and all matters regarding Resolution No. 2019. A resolution of the Mayor and City Council of the City of San Luis, Arizona, directing and authorizing the street name change of First Avenue to William Brooks Avenue. (Mayor Gerardo Sanchez & Tadeo A. De La Hoya, City Manager)
SUMMARY:
City Council may change the name of any roadway within the City of San Luis for commemorative purposes. This is done by resolution as per Section 4.1 of the City of San Luis Roadway Naming and Addressing Policy.
In this case, City Council desires to commemorate and recognize the important role and positive impact of William K. Brooks on the history of the San Luis area.
A native of Yuma, Mr. Brooks started his law enforcement career as a Yuma County Sheriff's Deputy in 1976, after having completed his studies in criminal justice from Arizona Western College. Mr. Brooks began his career with the former U.S. Customs Service (USCS) in 1983 at the Port of Calexico, California. During his more than 30 years of service, he has held many leadership postilions, including the Port Director at the U.S. Port of Entry of San Luis, Arizona.
As per Section 4.5 of the Roadway Naming and Addressing Policy, City staff will provide notification of this name change to the affected property owners, delivery and utility companies, Yuma County, the San Luis Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for 9-1-1, City of San Luis Fire and Police Departments. Public Works Department will be informed to ensure that the roadway signs are replaced within a reasonable period of time.
