ITEM:
Discussion and possible action on any and all matters regarding the purchase of nine (9) new Mobile Data Computers. (Angel Ramirez, Fire Chief)
SUMMARY:
Throughout the years, the San Luis Fire Department (SLFD) has evolved into one of the finest organizations, not just in Yuma County but throughout the state. To say that SLFD has earned an excellent state classification speaks volumes as to what we are doing and what our administration is doing for us. The equipment that we currently have is second to none, and we will continue to work hard and keep making strides to better our department.
One piece of equipment that we utilize on a daily basis is our Mobile Data Computers (MDC’s). We had all our MDC’s for about ten (10) years. These MDC’s are coming to the end of their shelf life. Once 2020 is here, they will no longer be of service to SLFD. That is why we want to get ahead of the game and start purchasing the necessary equipment needed in order to operate at our maximum capacity. This equipment is vital to our system because they provide us the lifeline from our dispatch center and to all responding units during any call for service.
With this purchase, we will continue to make progress and provide better safety equipment to all our firefighters.
The City of Tucson obtained a contract through competitive bidding for the same equipment. SLFD is using that contract price of $38,123.99 under National IPA Contract Number 171725. The city may make purchases without a formal bidding process whenever other governmental units have done so for the same items as here. (See San Luis City Code-Purchasing Section 36.09).
