ITEM:
Discussion and possible action on any and all matters regarding Order No. 2020-1. An order of the Mayor and City Council of San Luis, Arizona to authorize the San Luis Police Department to receive additional funding for equipment by approving Highway Safety Contract Number 2020-PTS-054 amendment number 2020-012 between the City Of San Luis, Arizona through the San Luis Police Department and the Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety. (Richard Jessup, Chief of Police)
SUMMARY:
The San Luis Police Department is seeking approval for the purchase of two (2) speed monitoring awareness radar trailer systems with (SMART) variable message sign and optional equipment as follows: SMART VMS Aluminum Wheel Upgrade, Traffic Data Recording System w/flashcard, SMART VMS Tamper Alarm, and VMS Anti-Corrosion upgrade; which will significantly aid in reducing accidents and fatalities, as well as increasing the community's awareness about the dangers of speeding and aggressive driving on Highway 95 and State Route 195. Both highways are heavy traffic areas. They are main travel routes for both ingress and egress for vehicular traffic from the San Luis Commercial U.S. Port of Entry and the San Luis Non-Commercial U.S. Port of Entry that registers about 9,219 non-commercial and commercial vehicles per day traveling onto both of these highways.
The funds for this purchase will be taken from grant funds awarded by the Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety Contract Number 2020-PTS-054. An amendment of this grant was approved by the Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety specifically to increase the number of SAM Trailers purchased from one to two.
