Discussion and possible action on any and all matters regarding the employment contract of the Chief of Police. (Tadeo A. De La Hoya, City Manager)
SUMMARY:
As required by Arizona law, non-judicial positions specifically approved by City Council must have a maximum term of two (2) years. The current Chief of Police contract written term was to September 12, 2020, but the contract continues until Council acts on it, which is this item. The Chief of Police is a position created by city ordinance which states:
San Luis City Code Section § 32.02 - "The Chief of Police shall be appointed by the City Manager, whose appointment shall be confirmed by the City Council, and shall serve at the pleasure of the City Manager on terms and conditions as may be approved by the City Council. The Chief of Police shall be subject to the direction of the City Manager. The City Manager shall provide for the appointment of as many police officers as may from time to time be deemed necessary for the safety and good order of the city."
