ITEM:

Discussion and possible action on any and all matters regarding Order No. 2024-05.  An Order of the Mayor and City Council of the City of San Luis, Arizona, to authorize the City of San Luis Police Department to receive funding from the State of Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs (DEMA) for Border Fencing and Technology by approving Agreement M24-0013 between the City of San Luis, Arizona through the San Luis Police Department and DEMA.  (Nigel I. Reynoso, Chief of Police)

SUMMARY:

The City of San Luis Police Department (SLPD) has been awarded a total of $1,384,300.00 for costs incurred and to maintain a physical border fence, to enhance, purchase, or install border security technologies including:

  • Mono Pole Tower
  • Police Vehicles
  • City Public Safety Surveillance (software & equipment) 
  • All-terrain vehicles
  • Police Vehicle Video/Audio Recording System
  • Surveillance Drone
  • Vehicle Cellular Antenna Boosters
The funds were appropriated in FY2023 and transferred to the Border Security Fund with a project timeline from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2027. The agreement outlines that the City of San Luis Police Department will be reimbursed for costs incurred to construct and maintain a physical border fence, to enhance, purchase, or install border security technologies, including the equipment listed above, with the purpose of conducting interdiction and drug enforcement, and purchase equipment in accordance with the DEMA approved budget. The cost is not to exceed $1,384,300.00.

I MOVE TO APPROVE AND ADOPT ORDER NO. 2024-05.
