Discussion and possible action on any and all matters regarding the purchase of a leased 2024 Peterbilt Solid Waste Side Loader Truck. (Manuel Hernandez, Assistant Director of Public Works)

SUMMARY:

During the Council Meeting on 9/25/23, the Mayor and Council approved a 12-month lease on a 2024 Peterbilt Solid Waste Truck. The lease will expire by the end of September 2024. As per the lease agreement, 50% of the 12-month lease payments will go towards the purchase of the vehicle ($50,400.00). The buyout price for this vehicle is $339,600.00. On June 26, 2024, the Mayor and Council approved allocating $339,600.00 for the purchase of the leased Solid Waste Truck. Reference CIP project #2025053. As mentioned during previous Council Meetings, new solid waste trucks are difficult to source, Public Works was fortunate to find an available new Solid Waste Truck. Public Works is now requesting to move forward with the purchase.

Public Works is seeking Mayor and Council approval for the purchase of the leased 2024 Peterbilt Solid Waste Truck and to waive the formal purchasing procedures as allowed under San Luis Purchasing Code Section 3.05.010 (F) for purchases exceeding the $45,000.00 threshold.

RECOMMENDATION / SUGGESTED MOTION:

I MOVE TO APPROVE THE PURCHASE OF A 2024 PETERBUILT SOLID WASTE TRUCK FROM RUSH REFUSE SYSTEMS IN THE AMOUNT OF $339,600.00 AND TO WAIVE FORMAL PROCUREMENT PROCEDURES.
