ITEM:
Discussion and possible directions to staff on any and all matters regarding possible opportunities of a partnership between the City of San Luis and the Gadsden Elementary School District #32 for the Scorpions Sports Complex. (Lizette Esparza, Gadsden School District Superintendent)
SUMMARY:
The Gadsden Elementary School District #32 has an update on their Land and Water Conservation Fund Grant application submitted in March 2026, with approval expected in September. They are requesting $872,160.00 to be matched by the district for a total cost of $1,744,320.00 for Phase 1.
Phase 1 of the Scorpions Sports Complex at San Luis Middle School includes two (2) soccer fields, a track field, restrooms, bleachers, lighting, and essential site work. The complex will serve both students and the wider San Luis community, with public access possible through a partnership with the city.
They are seeking city support through financial assistance, construction or labor contributions, equipment support, or in-kind services. This project is a long-term investment in recreation and community well-being.
