Information
Title
Purpose/Background:
The Anoka Conservation District (ACD) identified 80 eroding streambank stretches on the Rum River throughout Anoka County while completing an erosion inventory early this year. That inventory led to a plan for ACD to apply for funding for riverbank stabilization projects throughout the County through three state grants with matching funds from Anoka County. ACD submitted a Lessard-Sams Outdoor Heritage Council application last month, and plans to submit applications for Clean Water Fund and Conservation Partners Legacy grants in the coming months. Both Upper and Lower Rum River WMO's signed letters of support for the Lessard-Sams grant proposal, and ACD is requesting member City's to do the same for use in submitting grant proposals for projects within each of the member cities borders.
Potential projects range from cedar tree revetments to habitat-enhancing bioengineering projects to hard armoring projects. Potential locations span the county and exist in each city. The inventory can be viewed on-line at https://www.anokaswcd.org/images/AnokaSWCD/Reports/Inventory/Rum_River_Erosion_Inventory_Final.pdf
ACD is asking the Ramsey City Council to approve the attached letter of support for the grant proposal efforts within the City of Ramsey. They will use the same letter for each proposal. A memo from ACD is attached for further information.
ACD is not asking for any financial commitment from the city, only signed letters of support to help boost their applications and show that the cities are supportive of the projects.
The Lessard-Sams grant proposal was previously submitted, and the other two grant deadlines are in late August/early September.
