Title
Adopt Resolution #19-184 to Backfill the Engineering Technician II Position.
Purpose/Background:
The purpose of this case is to request authorization to hire an Engineering Technician II to backfill a position in the Engineering Department.
In April, one Engineering Department employee retired which created a promotional opportunity for another long-term employee in the Department. There is a case on tonight's agenda to authorize that promotion. The promotion creates an Engineering Technician II vacancy. It is important to note, the Department is not adding employees, but seeks to maintain staffing at the level they were at prior to the retirement. In addition, the combined staffing changes represent a savings over the previous amount budget. The duties of the Engineering Technician II are listed on the attached job description.
In order to fill the position, a recruitment process was conducted. Staff interviewed many candidates, including Mr. Logan Czech who was selected to advance in the recruitment process. Mr. Czech completed the necessary pre-employment background checks and staff recommends Mr. Czech for the full-time regular position of Engineering Technician II. Mr. Czech will be subject to a 6-month probationary period, the City's Personnel Policy and AFSCME union contract.
