Title
Adopt Resolution #19-185 Promoting an Engineering Technician II to Engineering Technician IV
Purpose/Background:
The purpose of this case is to request authorization to promote a current Engineering Technician II to Engineering Technician IV.
In April, the City's Senior Engineering Technician retired which created a promotional opportunity for another long-term employee in the Department. There is a case on tonight's agenda to authorize back-filling the Engineering Technician II position. With this hire, the Engineering Technician II position will be filled. Staff recommends promoting Mr. Aaron Madsen to Engineering Technician IV. The staffing needs of the Engineering Department align well with the Engineering Technician IV position and the former Senior Engineering Technician position will remain unfilled.
As stated in the case to back-fill the Engineering Technician II position, the Department is not adding employees, but seeks to maintain staffing at the level they were at prior to the retirement. In addition, the combined staffing changes represent a savings over the previous amount budget. The duties of the Engineering Technician IV are listed on the attached job description. Mr. Madsen will be subject to the City's Personnel Policy and AFSCME union contract.
